21-year-old Georgian tennis player Mariam Bolkvadze lost to No.3 seed Czech Republic’s Karolina Pliskova 1:6, 4:6 in the second round of US Open but we can only praise Mariam: she did more than we had expected.
Bolkvadze won 3 qualifying matches. In the main draw she beat world No.65 America’s Bernanda Pera 6:3, 5:7, 6:4. Karolina Pliskova was a favorite against Mariam and she beat the Georgian in an hour and 8 minutes.
Mariam did not serve an ace and made 6 double faults. She won 62% (23 from 37) on the first serve and 30% (6 from 20) on the second one. Bolkvadze had 11 winners and 27 unforced errors. The Georgian managed to break Pliskova only once and lost her own serve 4 times.
Bolkvadze has 398 points and is in the 152nd place in live-ranking.
