Georgian judoka Vazha Margvelashvili (66kg) gained bronze medal and 500 ranking points at Abu Dhabi Grand Slam.
The Georgian held three meetings in the main draw. He defeated Strahinja Buncic of Serbia and Gumar Kyrgyzbayev of Kazakhstan. In ¼ final the Georgian lost to Nijat Shikhalizada of Azerbaijan and switched to repechage final where won over Ghassem Nourizadeh of Iran. In the decisive meeting Margvelashvili overcame Yeldos Zhumakanov.
Another Georgian Lasha Giunashvili (66kg) ended up his participation in Grand Slam by losing to Yeldos Zhumakanov.
Amiran Papinashvili (60kg) also took part in the competition, but lacked the only step to pedestal.
Amiran Papinashvili earned 360 ranking points by taking the 5th place.
Abu Dhabi Grand Slam will last until October 28. Another three Georgian judokas will compete in the name of Georgia. Zebeda Rekhviashvili (81kg) will wrestle tomorrow, Beka Gviniashvili (90kg) and Varlam Liparteliani (100kg) – the day after tomorrow.
