After a fantastic match with the Lithuanian team, we had the desire to experience the joy for the second time, however Georgia did not do anything against Germany and finally gave up.
First of all, it should be noted that no one of Georgians played well. In comparison with others, Zaza Pachulia was the most successful with 14 points and 8 rebounds.
The reason for failure perhaps is inattentive game. Nobody knows it was caused due to the strength of the opponent or the other reason, but the fact is that the Georgian team had 24 (!) turnovers. This is too much. The leader of the team Tornike Shengelia did not look convincingly too – he scored only 12 points and made 8 faults…
What can be said about the game? – the Georgian national team resisted the opponent in the first quarter. The first 10 minutes was mostly transitional and the teams gained 19-19 points. Georgia held the second quarter badly and the opponent gained another 5 points. It was exactly the same scenario with Lithuania, but the continuation was not as good as we wanted. The national team of Georgia started the third quarter well and eliminated the difference, but it turned out, it was maximum. Since then, Germany has out the game in its hands. Dennis Schroder of “Atlanta Hawks” scored 23 points in out basket. Still, we cannot say it was a reason of our failure. For example, along with these points, Schroder had 9 turnovers which is a bad result. But others played better – for example Robin Benzing gained 11 points and scored two consecutive 3-points, which made Georgia break down.
We should talk separately on the final period – the score was 52:55 and nothing seemed impossible. It was not difficult to eliminate the difference in 10 minutes. However the Georgian team scored only 5 (!) points, which is a catastrophic result. That was the final run of Germany (11 points). The national team did not manage to score a point in 4 minutes and it was clear that the game was lost. Finally, minus 10 points: 57:67.
The Georgian team faces Ukraine in the third match. The game will start on September 3, 16:45 Tbilisi time.
Georgia – Germany 57:67 (19:19, 17:22, 16:14, 5:12)
