Yet, Only Georgian Men Win Gold Medals in Tbilisi

The first day of Tbilisi Grand Prix finished with triumph of the Georgian men’s team. Lukhum Chkhvimiani (60 kg) and Lasha Giunashvili (66 kg) won gold medals in 60 and 66 kg.

In final Chkhvimiani defeated Amiran Papinashvili by two waza-aris and earned 700 ranking points with gold medal. He will enter Top 20. Papinashvili earned 490 points which is enough for entering Top 3.

Before the final Chkhvimiani Jorre Verstraeten of Belgium, Sahib Asgarov of Azerbaijan, Amarbod Jagvaraldorj of Mongolia and Mukhriddin Tilovov of Uzbekistan.

Amiran Papinashvili started participating from the second round. He beat Alon Rahima of Israel, Mehman Sadigov of Azerbaijan and Albert Oguzov of Russia.

Robinzon Beglarashvili won over Mark Tsirkin of Estonia but then fell to Phelipe Pelim of Brazil. Giorgi Brolashvili lost the first round to Zhaksybek Zhenisbek of Kazakhstan.

24-year-old Lasha Giunashvili defeated Jorge Gonzalez of Colombia, Jasper Lefevere of Belgium, Altansukh Dovdon of Mongolia and Charles Chibana of Brazil. In the final he beat Tumurkhuleg Davaadorj of Mongolia.

Tornike Nagliashvili, Shalva Gazashvili and Tornike Tatarashvili also wrestled in 66 kg. Nagliashvili lost the first round to Daniel Cargnin of Brazil.

Shalva Gazashvili beat Strahinja Buncic of Serbia but then failed to Charles Chibana of Brazil.

Today women champions and prize winners were revealed in 48, 52 and 57 kg. Olga Aladoshvili (48 kg) fell to Mariia Persidskaia of Russia. Eter Liparteliani (57 kg) failed to Natalia Golomidova of russia. Mariam Tsikhelashvili (57 kg) lost to Khulan Tseregbaatar of Mongolia. Salome Abashidze (57 kg) failed to Margriet Bergstra of Netherlands.

21-year-old Mariam Janashvili (57 kg) won over Anna Kazyulina of Kazakhstan but then fell to Irina Zabludina of Russia. In repechage semifinal Janashvili failed to Ivelina Ilieva of Bulgaria. Finally, the Georgian took the 7th place and earned 182 ranking points.

Tomorrow men champions and prize winners will be revealed in 73 and 81 kg and women – in 63 and 70 kg. The following judokas will wrestle in the name of Georgia: Giga Gigauri, Tato Grigalashvili, Pridon Gigani, Omar Niazashvili (all 73 kg), Nugzar Tatalashvili, Ambako Avaliani, Koba Mchedlishvili, Giorgi Papunashvili (all 81 kg), Tea Sukhitashvili and Nino Odzelashvili (both 70 kg).
