Lasha Shavdatuashvili Is Silver Medalist of Dusseldorf Grand Prix

Georgian judoka Lasha Shavdatuashvili (73kg) gained silver medal at Dusseldorf Grand Prix. As far as you know, Vazha Margvelashvili (66kg) won gold and Amiran Papinashvili (60kg) silver at the same tournament.

Shavdatuashvili was No.1 seed at the tournament and in the first round overcame Christoffer Macias of Sweden. In the second circle, Georgian judoka faced Zhansay Smagulov of Kazakhstan and made through to quarterfinal, where defeated Marcelo Contini of Brazil.

In semifinal, Shavdatuashvili won over Jewish Tohar Butbul and in the fight for gold lost to Russian Denis Iartcev.

The current champion of Georgia Pridon Gigani also was involved in the competition, but stayed beyond the Grand Prix.

Like Gigani, wrestlers in 81kg category Ambako Avaliani and Nugzar Tatalashvili stayed beyond the tournament.

Tomorrow, following judokas will wrestle in the name of Georgia: 90 kg- Beka Gviniashvili and Avtandil Chrikishvili; 100 kg – Lasha Taveluri; +100 kg – Levan Matiashvili and Adam Okruashvili. Varlam Liparteliani is also on the list, but probably he will not take part in the competition due to his head trauma.
