Silver and Bronze Medals from Paris

The Georgian judo team finished Paris Grand Slam with 4 medals. Yesterday Zebeda Rekhviashvili (81 kg) won silver medal and Varlam Liparteliani (100 kg) won bronze one.

In final Rekhviashvili beat Frank De Wit of Netherlands by waza-ari. Before the final, Zebeda won five meetings. He defeated Ali Mjrashi of Saudi Arabia, Ivaylo Ivanov of Bulgaria, Attila Ungvari of Hungary, Baptiste Pierre of France and Pape Doudou Ndiaye of France.

Varlam Liparteliani wrestled in new weight category (100 kg) for the first time. He started participating from the second round. Liparteliani defeated Sultan Mania of Saudi Arabia and Adlan Bisultanov of Russia. In ¼ final the Georgian fell to future champion Kentaro Iida of Japan

In repechage semifinal Liparteliani won over Karl-Richard Frey of Germany. In bronze final Varlam beat Michael Korrel of Netherlands by waza-ari.

Beka Gviniashvili (90 kg) and Guram Tushishvili (+100 kg) took the fifth places,

Gviniashvili started competing from the second round. He defeated Tabane Paye of Senegal and Kenta Nagasawa of Japan. In ¼ final the Georgian judoka lost to current world champion Donghan Gwak of South Korea. In repechage semifinal Beka won over Komronshokh Ustopiriyon of Tajikistan by waza-ari. Unfortunately, in bronze final he fell to Mihael Zgank of Slovenia.

Guram Tushishvili defeated Nabil Zalagh of France and Roy Meyer of Netherlands. In ¼ final the Georgian judoka failed to Takeshi Ojitani of Japan. In bronze semifinal Tushishvili beat Andrey Volkov of Russia but unfortunately, then he fell to Duurenbayar Ulziibayar of Mongolia and took the fifth place.

Other four Georgians also wrestled on the French tatami. Tamaz Kirakozashvili (81 kg), Avtandil Tchrikishvili (90 kg), Lasha Taveluri (100 kg) and Levan Matiashvili (+100 kg) lost the first stages.

At Paris Grand Slam the Georgian judo team took the 5th place among 53 countries.

The Georgian judokas are staying in France to participate in joint practices. They will depart for Germany and will participate in Dusseldorf Grand Prix on February 24-26.
