Georgia’s NO.1 tennis player Nikoloz Basilashvili defeated 27-year-old Martin Klizan of Slovakia 0:6, 6:3, 6:3 in ¼ final of Sofia Open (Bulgaria) and in semifinal will face Grigor Dimitrov.
The match lasted almost for 2 hours and Basilashvili showed an enviable firmness. After the failure of the first set, the Georgian managed to turn the meeting. In the first set, Nika could not win the game, had three breaks and after 0:4 he never tried to fight. In the second set, the Georgian received the opponent’s serve, but Klizan soon equalized. Martin Klizan had more psychological advantage, but Basilashvili managed to win three games in a row by his good play.
Basilashvili started the decisive set good, won his serve and made a break -2:0. In the last game, the Georgian left no chances to opponent and won – 6:3.
In semifinal, Basilashvili will play against Dimitrov, who plays well this year. Grigor Dimitrov made through to semifinal of Australian Open, where lost to Rafael Nadal. The Georgian and Bulgarian will meet each other for the first time. The match will take place on February 11, 20:00 Tbilisi time.
By winning ¼ final, Basilashvili earned 90 ranking points and 24.520 000 Euros.
