Only Esther Stam Wrestles On Behalf of Georgia in Tokyo

The judokas complete 2016 Individual Tournaments with Jigoro Kano Memorial. Traditional and prestigious international tournament, which in recent years has the Grand Slam status, will take place in Tokyo from tomorrow until December 4. 287 judokas of 41 countries will take part in it. According to preliminary plans, the men’s team also had to take part in it but due to the fact that the budget has already been used, they will complete the season by domestic training meeting. The team of Irakli Tsirekidze prepares with Azerbaijani team, led by Peter Seisenbacher.

On the next Grand Slam Georgia will have at least one athlete – a naturalized member of the women’s team Esther Stam (70kg) will be involved in the competition. The draw has already taken place and it turned out that Stam will open the competition by facing Naeko Maeda of Japan on December 3. The winner will play against South Korean Seongieon Kim in 1/8 final.

Two more Georgians are invited to Tokyo Grand Slam. Vladimer Nutsubidze will be the referee and Giorgi Chanishvili – announcer.

As for the men’s team, they will leave for Mittersill (Austria) after the new year to held a training session.
