The Georgian athletes were awarded the Order of Merit.

Yesterday, Georgia’s President Giorgi Margvelashvili hosted Olympic champions Vladimer Khinchegashvili and Lasha Talakhadze, finalist Varlam Liparteliani and bronze medalists: Lasha Shavdatuashvili, Shmagi Bolkvadze, Irakli Turmanidze and Geno Petriashvili in the Avlabari Presidential Administration.

Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs of Georgia Tariel Khechikashvili and representatives of National Olympic Committee and Presidential Administration also attended the meeting together with Georgian Olympians.

From the Avlabari Palace, the athletes moved to Lisi Lake, where Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili congratulated them the Brazilian success.

The special reception was free to attend and besides officials, the athlete’s family members, veteran Olympians and fans gathered on the Lake.

The event was also attended by the Georgian Paralympians, who will travel to Brazil on August 31 to participate in the Paralympic Games. This year, five Georgian athletes won the Paralympiad license.
