Zurab Khomasuridze: "We Hope that Additional Examination Won't Show Doping"

In the conversation with “World Sport”, the head coach of Georgian swimming team Zurab Khomasuridze talked about changes in the Olympic list, which was made few days earlier before the start of the Rio Olympics.

Recall, that due to preliminary plan, Irakli Bolkvadze was going to represent Georgia in Brazil, but Irakli Revishvili replaced him in the last moment.

“After the end of preparatory period, Georgian Anti-Doping Agency tested athletes on drugs and sent the samples in Germany. In case of Bolkvadze, the results were positive. We do not have information about what kind of drug it was.

Most of time, Irakli was practicing in Austria. The decision was made by the Georgian Anti-Doping Agency. We protested the first result of test and requested an additional examination.

We hope, that our athlete’s guiltlessness will be proved. Otherwise, he will be disqualified for 4 years”, - said Zurab Khomasuridze.

Bolkvadze had to participate in 200m breaststroke. Revishvili will participate in 400m freestyle on August 6.
