Tornike Shengelia, one of the leaders of the Georgia national team and Laboral Kutxa of Spain, commented on the scandal that erupted around the Georgian Basketball Federation.

“I want to comment on the so-called scandal in the Georgian Basketball Federation. In particular, I want to comment on the statement of my father Kakha Shengelia about his resignation from the position of vice president!

I would like to express my position and to say I am supporting my father not only because he is my father but also because he is the person whose commitment, dedication and idea of development of the Georgian basketball I know.

I am not going to talk much. I just want everybody to know that I blindly trust his decisions because I believe well-grounded reasons are behind his every action!”

On June 1 Kakha Shengelia and Temur Datikashvili left the board of the Georgian Basketball Federation.

Datikashvili is a president of Vita. Shengelia was one of the vice presidents of the Georgian Basketball Federation and resigned from this post too.

They are blaming the federation for wasting money. Shengelia and Datikashvili are demanding to hold extraordinary congress and special election.
