Beka Gviniashvili - from Baku to Rio

Three weeks before the end of the Olympic license season, the Georgian judo team will wrestle on the Brazilian tatami with almost full composition. Beka Gviniashvili (100 kg) won over five opponents in Azerbaijan and earned 500 ranking points.

Before the final, the 20-year-old Georgian judoka defeated Ivan Remarenco of the UAE, Elkhan Mammadov of Azerbaijan, Javad Mahjoub of Iran, Dimitri Peters of Germany and Aaron Wolf of Japan. In the final Gviniashvili beat Miklos Cirjenics of Hungary.

Lasha Taveluri also wrestled in 100 kg. He defeated Flavio Orlik of Switzerland but in 1/8 final he fell to Adlan Bisultanov of Russia.

Today champions and prize winners were also revealed in 90 and +100 kg. Two-two Georgian judokas wrestled in the both weight categories but none of them reached Top 3.

Ushangi Margiani (90 kg) failed the first round to Nikoloz Sherazadishvili of Spain.

Tornike Jugeli (90 kg) beat Francois Saade of Lebanon but then lost to Kirill Denisov of Russia.

Levan Matiashvili and Adam Okruashvili (both +100 kg) lost the first stages.

Matiashvili won over Pedro Pineda of Venezuela and then fell to Abdullo Tangriev of Uzbekistan.

Okruashvili lost to Marius Paskevicius of Lithuania.
