Liparteliani's Third European Triumph (+VIDEO)

Georgian judoka Varlam Liparteliani is three-time champion of Europe. Today, he won the third gold in the Russian city of Kazan.

In 90 kg, Liparteliani defeated five opponents. The Georgian beat Milan Randl of Slovakia, Mihael Zgank of Slovenia, Quedjau Nhabal of Ukraine and Piotr Kuczera of Poland. In final, Liparteliani won over Kristian Toti and together with the champion title earned 400 ranking points (VIDEO).

Today, Levan Matiashvili (+100 kg) also gained medal for the Georgian team. He lost gold-silver chance in semifinal by losing to Teddy Riner of France.

In repechage final, Matiashvili beat Barna Bor of Hungary and together with bronze medal earned 160 ranking points (VIDEO).

Before these meetings, Levan Matiashvili defeated two opponents: Zarko Culum of Serbia and Oleksandr Gordiienko of Ukraine.

In heavy weight category, last year’s European champion Adam Okruashvili wrestled on behalf of Georgia. Okruashvili lost in the first meeting against Oleksandr Gordiienko and stayed beyond the championship.

In 100 kg, Beka Gviniashvili involved in the competition, but wrestled only twice. In the first round, he won over Domenico di Guida of Italy and then lost to Henk Grol of Netherlands.

Thus, the Georgian judo team ended up the competition with 2 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze medals. Vazha Margvelashvili (66 kg) and Varlam Liparteliani (90 kg) became the champions of Europe. Lasha Shavdatuashvili (73 kg), Avtandil Chrikishvili (81 kg) and Esther Stam (70 kg) lacked the only victory to the highest title. Nugzar Tatalashvili (73 kg) and Levan Matiashvili (+100 kg) took the third place.
