The Georgian judo team finished Samsun Grand Prix with gold, silver and bronze medals. Irakli Uznadze’s team won all three medals today. Beka Gviniashvili (100 kg) won gold medal. Heavyweights Levan Matiashvili and Adam Okruashvili took the second and the third places.
Before the final, Gviniashvili beat four opponents by ippons. He defeated Enes Tatar of Turkey, Elmar Gasimov of Azerbaijan, Benjamin Fletcher of Great Britain and Ivan Remarenco of the UAE. In the final, Beka won over Rafael Buzacarini of Brazil by yuko.
Beka Gviniashvili earned 300 ranking points and Rio 2016 Olympics license.
Levan Matiashvili finished morning block without a failure. He defeated Feyyaz Yazici of Turkey, Rafael Silva of Brazil and Iurii Krakovetskii of Kyrgyzstan by ippons. In the final the Georgian judoka fell to 8-time world champion, 4-time European champion and Olympic champion Teddy Riner of France. Matiashvili earned 180 ranking points.
Current European champion Adam Okruashvili beat Yerzhan Shynkeyev of Kazakhstan by waza-ari and then lost to David Moura of Brazil. In repechage the Georgian won over Daniel Allerstorfer of Austria and Iurii Krakovetskii of Kyrgyzstan.
Today Nodar Beriani, Ushangi Margiani (both 90 kg), Aleksandre Mskhaladze (100 kg) and Irine Leonidze (+78 kg) also wrestled on the Turkish tatami but all of them lost the first stage.
