The first day of Samsun Grand Prix turned to be unsuccessful for the Georgian judokas. Two judokas wrestled in the name of Georgia in the initial two weight categories and both of them lost in 1/8 final.
In 60 kg, Lukhum Chkhvimiani won over French Walide Khyar, then lost to Diyorbek Urozboev of Uzbekistan. The former member of Georgian team Betkil Shukvani reached the highest step of the podium, who is fighting on behalf of Turkey with the name of Bekir Ozlu. In final, Ozlu defeated Ahmet Kaba and guaranteed the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
In 66 kg, Beka Shavdatuashvili beat Michal Bartusik of Poland and in 1/8 final lost to Azamat Mukanov of Kazakhstan.
Today, champions and prize winners will be revealed in 73 and 81 kg. Pridon Gigani, Zviad Kapanadze (both 73), Levan Gugava and Giorgi Papunashvili (both 81) will wrestle on behalf of Georgia. The member of Georgian women’s team Esther Stam (70kg) also will participate today.
