Gorgodze's Response to Parisse

Mamuka Gorgodze, leader of the Georgia national team, responded to Sergio Parisse of Italy who stated that none of the teams deserves to replace Italy in Six Nations.

“I respect Sergio, he is a world-class player but he must not decide such issues. His job is to play and not to decide who deserves to play in Six Nations and who does not. We are insulted by his words. At this moment the Georgia national team is not ready to play in Six Nations but we want to develop and to play at higher level. We need an intermediate tournament for it.

One thing is for sure – today’s Georgia would not be scored 70 points by Wales. If we had played in Six Nations as many years as Italy, we would have had much bigger progress.

This year we are holding test matches against Scotland, Fiji, Samoa, Japan and Tonga. We will gain a lot of experience. However, in my opinion, Georgia should play representatives of Six Nations regularly. We respect our opponents at Nations Cup but except Romania, no one is able to oppose us there”, - noted Gorgodze.
