Levan Matiashvili (+100 kg), member of the Georgian judo team, lacked one victory for standing on the pedestal. In repechage final the Georgian lost to Faicel Jaballah of Tunis and took the 5th place. Besides that, Matiashvili earned 100 ranking points.
Matiashvili held three fights in the main draw. He beat Yerzhan Shynkeyev of Kazakhstan by waza-ari and Maciej Sarnacki of Poland. In semifinal the Georgian judoka lost gold-silver chance to future champion Sung-Min Kim of South Korea.
Today Aleksandre Mskhaladze (100 kg) also wrestled in the name of Georgia. He failed to Miklos Cirjenics of Hungary.
The Georgian team finished Abu Dhabi Grand Slam with two medals. Amiran Papinashvili won gold medal in 60 kg and Lasha Shavdatuashvili won bronze medal in 73 kg.
