The Georgian junior judo team won the silver medal at the World Team Championship in Abu Dhabi. The team, coached by Mindia Bodaveli and Irakli Tsirekidze, lost to Japan’s team 0:5 in final.
In 66 kg weight category, wrestler Tornike Nagliashvili faced Masaya Asari of Japan and lost at the end of the 3rd minute. In 73 kg weight category, current champion of Europe and World silver medalist Tamaz Kirakozashvili lost to Yuji Yamamato.
In the remaining meetings, the coaches gave a chance to those wrestlers who had not participated before the final. Giorgi Gvelesiani (90 kg) faced Shoichiro Mukai and lost with one shido. Giorgi Lazuashvili (+90kg) lost to Genta Tanaka at the 3rd minute.
The teams of Japan and Georgia were involved in the competition from the second circle. The Georgian judokas beat Belorussia (3:2) and Egypt (4:1) on the way of final.
Belorussia and Russia occupied the 3rd positions.
Champions and prizewinners were also found out in female teams. The Japanese won the gold medal by beating France in final. Germany and Netherlands gained bronze.
