Today, Junior European Championship started in Oberwart (Austria) and champions and prizewinners were revealed in 4-4 categories of 8-8 weight categories among women and men.
Seven members of Georgian U-21 team involved in the competition and three of them reached the podium.
Tamaz Kirakozashvili, wrestler in 73 kg weight category, held 5 meetings, won all of them by ippon and gained gold medal.
Giorgi Katsiashvili also wrestled in 73 kg weight category and lost in ¼ final to Slovenian Martin Hojak. Before this meeting, the Georgian beat Spanish Carlos Aguilar Vega, Romanian Elemer Szocs and Finland’s Arttu Maatta. In repechage, Katsiashvili overcame German Timo Cavelius and Kosovo’s Akil Gjakova and won bronze medal.
Like Katsiashvili, Tornike Nagliashvili (60 kg) also gained bronze medal.
Georgian team’s members Irakli Kupatadze (55 kg) and Beka Shavdatuashvili (66 kg) took part in the competition, but lost before ¼ final.
Georgian girls also fit kimono today: Mariam Janashvili (52 kg) and Salome Abashidze (57 kg) reached 1/8 final.
Tomorrow following judokas will be involved in the competition: Levan Gugava, Koba Mchedlishvili (both 81 kg), Beka Gviniashvili, Davit Ramazashvili (both 90 kg) and Guram Tushishvili (+100 kg).
