Georgian freestyle wrestling team’s member Sandro Aminashvili (86kg) won bronze medal and license of playing at the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games 2016 at the current World Championship in Las Vegas. Elizbar Odikadze (97kg) lacked the only victory to top three, but the fifth place turned out to be enough for license.
Aminashvili opened the main competition of the season by winning over American Jacob Herbert (6:1). In 1/8 final, the Georgian lost to Turkish Selim Yashar 0:2 and made through to the repechage, where beat Puerto Rican Khaime Yusept Espinal (5:1), Venezuelan Pedro Francisco Chebalos Fuentes (5:3) and Azerbaijan Magomedgaj Khatiev.
As for Odikadze, he won the Olympic license by reaching semifinal. In the main draw, he beat Argentina’s Yuri Alexei Horacio Mayer (10:0), Canada’s Arjun Sinkh Gill (5:3) and South Korean Jaegang Kim (4:2). On the way of final, the Georgian lost to Russia’s Abdusalim Gadisov (2:7).
Yesterday, Beka Lomtadze was involved in the competition in the non-Olympic weight category – 61 kg. In the first round, the Georgian beat Philippine Christian Etpison Nicolescu 12:0. In 1/8 final, Lomtadze overcame South Korean Jaeon Yang 6:4 and in quarter final ended his participation in the main draw by losing to Mongolian Nomin Batbold 5:10.
After this meeting, Lomtadze made through to the “bronze semifinal” and lost to India’s Bajrang Bajrang 6:13.
This evening, freestyle wrestlers in remained four categories will wrestle. Vladimer Khinchegashvili (57kg), Davit Tlashadze (70kg), Jumber Kvelashvili (74kg) and Geno Petriashvili (125kg) will be involved in the competition.
