Georgian judokas Varlam Liparteliani and Beka Gviniashvili (both 90 kg) made through to ¼ final at World Judo Championships in Astana. Esther Stam (70 kg) lost 1/8 final.

Liparteliani beat Mihail Marchitan of the United Arab Emirates, Jacob Larsen of America and Alexandre Iddir of France.

Gviniashvili went through to ¼ final by ippons. He defeated Quedjau Nhabali of Ukraine, Patryk Ciechomski of Poland and Aleksandar Kukolj of Serbia.

Stam won over Assmaa Niang of Morocco and then lost to Chizuru Arai of China.

In ¼ final Liparteliani will wrestle Dong Han Gwak of South Korea and Gviniashvili will face Mashu Baker of Japan.
