Georgian weightlifter Irakli Turmanidze (+105kg) is the champion of Europe! Weightlifting International Federation recognized Turmanidze as the champion yesterday.
Today’s press conference held in Sports and Youth Affairs Ministry was dedicated to the successful participation of U-15 and U-17 weightlifters at the European Championship.
The Minister Tariel Khechikashvili, Weightlifting Federation’s President Kakhi Kakhiashvili, national team’s head coach Giorgi Asanidze and silver medalist of U-17 European Championship Revaz Davitadze met journalist.
“I want to congratulate the whole Georgia this success. It is very good that our boys get used to victories at this age. I would like to wish our team success in future tournaments. As for the steps of the government, we fully contribute to the popularization of this sport and it is clear this will continue in future as well”, - said Tariel Khechikashvili.
“Congratulations on the success of our athletes, they made us happy! They gained 8 medals at the European Youth Championship! I also would like to thank the Ministry for helping us”, - said Kakhi Kakhiashvili.
According to the national team’s head coach Giorgi Asanidze, the main task of the team is a successful performance at the World Championship in autumn.
At the European Championship held in Tbilisi on April 11-18, Irakli Turmanidze gained silver medal, however gold medalist Ukrainian Oleg Proshak did not pass doping-test and the Georgian became the champion.
