Youth Olympic Festival Starts Today

On July 26, the Youth Olympic Festival will open at Mikheil Meskhi stadium. At the opening ceremony, 1500 people will take part and Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, European Olympic Committee’s President Patrick Hickey and Tbilisi 2015’s Organizational Committee’s Chairman Aleqsi Akhvlediani will deliver a speech.

As for the next stage of the tournament, the competitions will start on July 27 and will end on August 1.

November 27, 2010 the 39th General Assembly of the European Olympic Committee allowed Tbilisi to hold the Youth Olympic Festival.

Youth Olympic Festival includes 9 species: judo, tennis, gymnastics, cycling, athletics, swimming, volleyball, handball and basketball.

3800 sportsmen, aged 14-18, of 50 countries will participate in the festival.

Handball matches will take place at the new stadium, which is located in the area of the university “Maglivi” building.

Basketball matches among men will be held in the Sports Palace and among women in the hall of Vere Park, which is located at the Kostava Street N45.

Tennis players will play at Mziuri Tennis Courts, where 11 tennis courts are deployed (1 central, 2 indoor and 8 playing).

As for swimming, swimming pool is located on the territory of US Embassy.
