Gold-Bronze Chance and a Huge Disappointment

Elizbar Odikadze (97 kg), member of the Georgian freestyle wrestling team, made through to final of European Games and will face Khetag Gazyumov of Azerbaijan. Jumber Kvelashvili (74 kg) will wrestle in “bronze final”. Avtandil Kenchadze (65 kg) is also wrestling for bronze. Vladimer Khinchegashvili (57 kg), the most title member of the Georgian team, could not get in Top 3.

Elizbar Odikadze beat Mindaugas Rumbutis of Lithuania (8:2 5:1), Jozef Jaloviar of Slovakia (6:2 0:0) and Valeriy Andriytsev of Ukraine (0:2 4:1).

Kvelashvili started participation from 1/16 final where he defeated Rustam Dudaev of Ukraine. Then, the Georgian won over Georg Hart of Germany (3:2 4:0) and Krystian Brzozowski of Poland. One more victory and Kvelashvili would have won a medal but he lost to Aniuar Geduev of Russia.

In repechage final Jumber Kvelashvili will face Ali Shabanau of Belarus.

Avtandil Kenchadze failed to Frank Chamizo of Italy (1:0 3:4) and will wrestle in repechage.

Vladimer Khinchegashvili beat Andrei Dudkov of Romania (1:0 2:0) and Islam Islamaj of Albania (10:0). In semifinal he wrestled Uladislau Andreiu of Belarus but a clash occurred between the wrestlers and both of them were removed from the competition.
