Bronze Start

Today Lukhum Chkhvimiani (60 kg), member of the Georgian judo team, won bronze medal at Baku Grand Prix and earned 200 ranking points. Chkhvimiani was to wrestle compatriot Amiran Papinashvili in repechage final but the latter did not wrestle and took the 5th place with 100 points.

Chkhvimiani wrestled 4 opponents in the main draw. He defeated Yann Siccardi of Monaco by ippon, Albert Oguzov of Russia, Amartuvshin Dashdavaa of Mongolia by waza-ari and lost to Vincent Limare of France in semifinal.

Amiran Papinashvili started Grand Slam by beating Denys Bilichenko of Ukriane. In ¼ final he lost gold-silver chance to Tobias Englmaier of Germany. In repechage semifinal the Georgian defeated Orkhan Safaro of Azerbaijan.

Today champions and prize winners were also revealed in 66 kg (men) and 48, 52 and 57 kg (women). Mindia Liluashvili and Vazha Margvelashvili wrestled in the name of Georgia.

Liluashvili failed to the first opponent – Baruch Shmailov of Israel. Margvelashvili won over David Ramirez Ramos of Spain and David Larose of France by ippon-ippon. In ¼ final he lost to Nijat Shikhalizada of Azerbaijan by waza-ari-yuko. In repechage the Georgian judoka failed to Hidayat Heydarov of Azerbaijan and took the 7th place.

Tomorrow champions and prize winners will be revealed in 73 and 81 kg (men) and 63 and 70 kg (women). The following judokas will wrestle in the name of Georgia: Nugzar Tatalashvili, Lasha Shavdatuashvili (both 73 kg), Ushangi Margiani, Lasha Zurabiani (both 81 kg) and Esther Stam (70 kg). The following judokas will wrestle the day after tomorrow: Aleksandre Mskhaladze, Lasha Guruli (both 100 kg), Adam Okruashvili and Levan Matiashvili (both +100 kg).
