The Court Released Accused in the Match-Fixing Scandal on Bail

The city court of Tbilisi released 8 persons accused in the match-fixing scandal on bail.

The arrested football players imposed a fine about 10000-10000 gel, Davit Gendzekhadze and Omar Nakaidze fined with 20000-20000 gel and Otar Shengelia – 15000 gel.

Football players of “Chkhimerela” Sachkhere Temur Sanikidze and Giorgi Goderidze recognize their guilt in match-fixing scandal. Teimuraz Beridze, lawyer of mentioned players, announced this information.

GTU’s president Otar Shengelia pleads not guilty. According to him, that game which MIA released was held “cleanly” in terms of sports.

Davit Gendzekhadze also considers himself innocent and says that it is possible to checkout.

Similarly, neither Ioseb Gioshvili nor Giorgi Kukhalashvili recognized their guilt.

After paying a bail, the accused will be released. The prosecutor’s office requested imprisonment of all eight detainees.

On May 5, the Interior Ministry arrested 8 persons, who were involved in the match-fixing scandal and made the following statement about this fact:

President of “GTU Tbilisi” Otar Shengelia, former breeder of “Chikhura” Sachkhere and formed football player Davit Gendzekhadze, Azian bookmaker ibcbet’s representative Omar N, current players of “Chkhimerela” Kharagauli – Giorgi G. and Temur S, former player of “Torpedo” Kutaisi Giga B and another two persons – Ioseb G. and Giorgi K.

The investigation established that the arrested persons, in exchange for 10 000 to 20 000 GEL, agreed with different team’s representatives in advance in order to end matches with desired results. Then, based on the information received in advance, they placed bets in online bookmakers and shared the winning sum.

The investigation undergoes on bribery fact by an organized group (of the Criminal Code Article 203, part 3, which is sentenced to 4 to 6 years of imprisonment).
