Nigalidze Faces a Ban

Georgian chess player Gaioz Nigalidze faces 15-year disqualification. The reason is an incident at the Dubai Open. Nigadze was caught cheating.

Gaioz was playing Tigran Petrosian of Armenia. The Georgian often nipped to the lavatory which made Petrosian suspicious. Nigalidze had hidden a mobile phone in the lavatory and his game was analyzed by a smartphone chess app. The Georgian visited the same toilet partition where the mobile phone was covered in toilet paper. Nigalidze is expelled from the tournament.

The Georgian chess player denied the charges and stated the mobile phone did not belong to him. However, the mobile was logged into Nigalidze’s social networking account and the chess app was analyzing his game.
