Georgian junior judo team won 11 medals at “Iliadis Cup”, which was held in Athens on April 4-5. The Georgian team took the first place among 33 teams.
Among men, members of Georgian junior judo team reached the highest step of the podium in 4 weight categories of 8. Following participants became the tournament champions: Irakli Kupataze (55kg), Tornike Nagliashvili (60kg), Koba Mchedlishvili (81kg) and Giorgi Lazuashvili (+100kg).
In heavyweight, Lazuashvili beat Jaba Mumladze. Jambul Kurdiani (66kg) lacked one victory to reach the highest step. Beka Shavdatuashvili, Beka Udesiani (both 66gk), Giorgi Gvelesiani (90kg) and Giga Gelashvili (+100kg) won the bronze medals.
The team coached by Irakli Tsirekidze and Mindia Bodaveli participated with 38 sportsmen and 10 of them hit the top three.
The girl’s team also took part in “Iliadis Cup” and involved in the competition with 7 members. Olga Aladoshvili wrestled better among them. She won the bronze medal in 44kg weight category.
The Georgian junior team has the major tournaments in autumn. On September 18-20, Oberwart (Austria) will host European Championship. On October 23-27, the capital city of United Arab Emirates Abu Dhabi will host the World Championship.
