The Georgian judo team finished Tbilisi Grand Prix with 7 medals and team first place. The third day turned out to be the most successful for Irakli Uznadze’s team. The Georgian finals were held in two weight classes. Varlam Liparteliani, Beka Gviniashvili (both 90 kg), Adam Okruashvili and Levan Matiashvili (both +100 kg) held morning program without a failure.
Varlam Liparteliani beat Ludovic Gobert of France, Sherali Jubaev of Uzbekistan and Marcus Nyman of Sweden. Beka Gviniashvili defeated Joakim Dvarby of Sweden, Tural Safguliyev of Azerbaijan and Krisztian Toth of Hungary.
The first Georgian final turned out to be very tough. Gviniashvili beat Liparteliani.
Levan Matiashvili won gold medal in heavyweight. In final he defeated Adam Okruashvili. Before that, Matiashvili won over Ruslan Abdrazakov of Kazakhstan, Aslan Kambiev of Russia and Oleksandr Gordiienko of Ukraine.
No.1 seed Okruashvili beat won over Iakiv Khammo of Ukriane, Or Sasson of Israel and Abdullo Tangriev of Uzbekistan.
Today Paata Gviniashvili, Zviad Gogochuri (both 90 kg), Lasha Guruli, Aleksandre Zaalishvili, Iason Nemsadze (all 100 kg), Onise Bugadze, Vakhtang Okruashvili (both +100 kg) and Irine Leonidze (+78 kg) also wrestled on tatami of Sports Palace but they lost the first stage.
Grand Prix champions earned 300-300 ranking points, silver medal winners gained 180-180 points, bronze medal winners – 120 and the fifth-placed – 60.
42 countries participated in the Tbilisi tournament.
