The Georgia national rugby union team is better team than any other at European Championship and the Georgians proved it again in the last round.
“The Lelos” visited Romania with optimal composition and beat the opponent – 15:6. The Georgians defeated “The Oaks” in every component and won Nations Cup 5 times in a row. Besides that, “The Lelos” won “Antim Cup” which is contested between these two teams.
Yes, the Georgia national team is better team than Romania. Merab Kvirikashvili used all 5 chances. The Georgian rugby players beat the opponent in individual and team play as well.
The Georgians have improved playing in lineout. Iuri Natriashvili carried out his instructions well. “The Lelos” had two chances to score a try and “The Oaks” had none.
Everybody knows Romania is not an easy opponent. This team also qualified for World Cup. However, “Tbilisi Cup” is ahead yet and perhaps, Milton Haig, head coach of the Georgia national team, will continue experiments and hopefully, in September our team will be a surprise for the whole world.
The match started and at the 9th minute the Georgia national team had a chance to score a try. Tamaz Mchedlidze crossed a try line but the Romanians did not let him ground the ball.
At the 14th minute Valentin Calafeteanu scored a penalty and “The Oaks” advanced – 3:0. Soon, the Romanians made a foul in scrum and Kvirikashvili restored balance from 35 meters.
The Romanians won a right to kick a penalty but they decided to play for a try. However, “The Oaks” lost the ball in lineout. In spite of that, Romania gained advantage for a while and Giorgi Nemsadze was sin-binned at the 29th minute.
Calafeteanu decided to gain 3 points but missed a penalty. The hosts made a foul in lineout and Kvirikashvili scored a penalty. The Georgians advanced 6:3.
Calafeteanu missed another penalty from 22 meters. Then the Georgians attacked and scored the third penalty. Referee sin-binned Iobut Botezatu. At the end of the first half Calafeteanu missed the third penalty and the Georgians won the half 9:3.
The teams played with foot at the beginning of the second half. Romania made a foul and Kvirikashvili scored a penalty. The Romanians tried to make an offence but “The Lelos” defended themselves without making a foul. At the 62nd minute, Kvirikashvili used his fifth chance – 15:3.
After that Romania managed to cross a central line only once and Danut Dumbrava scored a penalty. The Georgians spent the rest of the time on the half of the opponent, beat Romania 5 times in a row!
“The Lelos” and their fans were very happy by beating Romania.
Wales won over Italy 20:61. So, on Monday Georgia will take the 14th place in ranking.
