Another two sets of medals were found out, among men, at Tbilisi Grand Prix. This time, members of Georgian team reached the podium, however the team of Irakli Uznadze won only one silver and two bronze medals.
The main surprise of the second day and perhaps the entire tournament was the fact that Avtandil Chrikishvili stayed beyond the top three. The current World and European champion started well as usual, but in 1/8 final lost to untitled Mongolian Dagvasuren Nyamsuren.
Ushangi Margiani took revenge over Nyamsurens instead of Chrikishvili.
Margiani showed the best result among the Georgians. Before tackling the Mongolian, he beat Armenian Davit Sargsyan in 2 minutes and 22 second and Srdjan Mrvaljevic of Montenegro in 3 minutes.
In semifinal, Margiani overcame Russian Sirazhudin Magomedov and in the fight for the champions title lost to another Russian Alan Khubetsov.
In 73kg weight category, Lasha Shavdatuashvili and Nugzar Tatalashvili reached the podium. Both of them reached the 3rd stage. They faced each other in final and Shavdatuashvili won by yuko.
Before competing with Tatalashvili, Olympic and European champion (66kg) overcame two stages. The Georgian beat Swedish Tommy Macias in 2 minutes and then Polish Damian Szwarnowiecki in 35 seconds.
Lasha Shavdatuashvili ended his participation in the main draw in semifinal by losing to Azerbaijani Rustam Orujov.
In repechage final, Shavdatuashvili beat another representative of Azerbaijan Huseyn Rahimli.
Before the quarterfinal, Tatalashvili won over Turkish Hasan Vanlioglu and French Guillaume Chaine.
In repechage final, Nugzar Tatalashvili won over Ukrainian Artem Khomula at first and in “bronze final” beat his teammate Zviad Kapanadze.
Pridon Gigani also wrestled under the Georgian flag. He started quite well, but in 1/8 final lost to Huseyn Rahimli of Azerbaijan.
Giorgi Papunashvili (81kg) lacked the only victory for the top three. In the main draw he overcame Hungarian Szabolcs Krizsan, Artem Vasilenko and Italian Antonio Ciano.
Papunashvili lost the chance of gold-silver by losing to Alan Khubetsov. In repechage final could not beat Dagvasuren Nyamsuren and took the fifth place.
Today, Ambako Avaliani (81kg) also wrestled, but only once. He lost to Anri Egutidze of Portugal.
Ushangi Margiani earned 180 ranking points, Lasha Shavdatuashvili and Nugzar Tatalashvili – 120-120, Zviad Kapanadze and Giorgi Papunashvili – 60-60.
Tomorrow, champions and prizewinners among men will found out in 90, 100 and +100 kg weight categories. The Georgian team will have 4-4 participants in all three weights. The only female judoka of Georgia Irine Leonidze (+78kg) will fit kimono tomorrow.
