On 20 March UEFA Super Cup was presented at “Radisson”. Domenti Sichinava, president of the Georgian Football Federation, Revaz Arveladze, vice president of the federation, Davit Narmania, Mayor of Tbilisi, and Kakha Kaladze, vice Premier of Georgia, attended ceremony. Giorgi Kinkladze, ambassador of Georgia’s Super Cup, came into the hall but left it early.
Revaz Arveladze: “We have a special day. The trophy arrived in Tbilisi. I will not talk much about importance of the upcoming match. Representatives of the Georgian government and Tbilisi City Hall are presenting in the hall”.
Domenti Sichinava: “Super Cup match was held first in 1974. “Milan” and “Ajax” held the first match. “Milan” won 1:0 home and lost 0:6 away. In 1981 “Liverpool” refused to play “Dinamo” Tbilisi. “Milan” has won the most Super Cup – 5. “Barcelona” won 4 times and “Liverpool” – 3 times.
As for ticket price of Super Cup, the cheapest one will cost 7 EUR and the most expensive – 30 EUR. Tickets will be available in June and fans can buy them on biletebi.ge. Two weeks before the match tickets will be available at box offices. In June we want to bring Super Cup, Champions League and Europa League trophies in Georgia”.
Davit Narmania: “It is important to host European event. The trophy is in Tbilisi. I want to thank UEFA which decided to hold Super Cup match in Tbilisi. Tbilisi has hosted numerous important matches in Tbilisi. Here are the football players who have played important matches. However, such important match has never held in independent Georgia. “Dinamo Arena” will be renovated for the match. City Hall and the Football Federation are planning to hold numerous important events”.
Kakha Kaladze: “This year Georgia is hosting international event. It is important for our country and capital city. The government and City Hall will do everything to hold the match at high level. I want to thank UEFA. The Georgian football has numerous stars. Some football players of our generation went down in history of world football. We will try to restore the Georgian football. I want to thank organizers, City Hall, Football Federation and each person who has contributed to holding the upcoming match”.
- Will the stadium be ready for Super Cup?
Davit Narmania: “Technology Development Fund” informs us once a week. I visit the stadium twice a week. The first stage of the works must finish until 29 March. The stadium must be ready by the end of July.
- Which team do you want to come to Tbilisi?
Kakha Kaladze: “It is tough to answer. It would be good if “Barcelona” arrived”.
Davit Narmania: “I am not an expert in this field. Whoever comes we will meet with dignity”.
- Is it planned to hold general rehearsal before Super Cup match?
Domenti Sichinava: “Permanent representative of UEFA is in Tbilisi. He observes current works at the stadium. Yet, UEFA is delighted with everything”.
- How will tickets be distributed?
Domenti Sichinava: “60 per cent of tickets will be available in Georgia. 3 000 – 3 000 tickets will be given to participant teams. If the teams want, they will receive other 10 000 tickets. Two weeks before the match tickets will be available on internet”.
- Will there be problems with second-hand dealers?
- On biletebi.ge one person can buy only 9 tickets. There have always been problems with second-hand dealers.
Kakha Tskhadadze, head coach of the Georgia national team, also attended presentation of Super Cup. Aleksandre Chivadze, vice president of the federation, was in the hall too.
As for Super Cup history, it was created in 1971 by Anton Witkamp, sports editor of newspaper “De Telegraaf”. The first Super Cup took place in 1974. Since 1998 Super Cup was played as a single match. Between 1998 and 2012 Super Cup was played at the Stade Louis II in Monaco. It was held in Prague in 2013 and in Cardiff in 2014.
