On the first day of Dusseldorf Grand Prix the Georgia judo team won one medal – Vazha Margvelashvili (66 kg) won bronze medal and earned 120 ranking points. In final the Georgian judoka beat Yakub Shamilov of Russia.
Before that Margvelashvili beat Rene Schneider of Germany, Abdula Abdulzhalilov of Russia, Arsen Ghazaryan of Armenia and Adrian Gomboc of Slovenia. In semifinal he lost to Kengo Takaichi of Japan.
Amiran Papinashvili (60 kg) defeated Philip Graf of Germany, Albert Oguzov of Russia and Phelipe Pelim of Brazil. In semifinal Papinashvili lost to Toru Shishime of Japan. In repechage final the Georgian fell to Rustam Ibrayev of Russia and finally, he took the 5th place and earned 60 ranking points.
Lasha Giunashvili also wrestled in 60 kg but in the first round he failed to Hovhannes Davtyan of Armenia.
In 66 kg Tornike Tatarashvili won over Davit Ghazaryan of Armenia. In the second round he lost to Ricardo Santos Junior.
Tomorrow winners will be found out in 73 and 81 kg. Nugzar Tatalashvili, Lasha Shavdatuashvili (both 73 kg), Avtandil Chrikishvili and Ushangi Margiani (both 81 kg) will wrestle in the name of Georgia.
