The first stage of the 2016 European Water Polo Qualification has finished in Tbilisi. The Georgian team took the second place in the group round. The team of Jovan Popovic defeated Portugal and Switzerland but lost to first-placed Slovakia.
In the last round the Georgian team faced Portugal. The Georgians gained advantage from the beginning and kept it till the end. Portugal played better in the first half. Before break they scored 2 goals and one goal after the break.
The team of Jovan Popovic won the first half 11:2 and the second one 10:1.
After the match we talked to Georgian water polo players Giorgi Khvedeliani and Khvicha Javakhia.
“I am satisfied with the result. Today’s win means we have made through to European Championship 70 per cent,” – noted Khvedeliani.
“Despite victory we could have taken better place in the group round. However, it is good result,” – stated Khvicha Javakhia.
