Lela Javakhishvili, the international chess grand master and the member of Georgian national team, goes to China on May 29. She will participate in Women’s Chess Super tournament from 30 May till 9 June.
Before the departure to China the “World Sport” talked to Lela Javakhishvili.
- Please tell us about the tournament, which is underway in China from 30 May till 9 june?
-In the current tournament, 8 best chess players and the current European champion, Valentina Gunina (Russia) will play with me. It can be said that it is the championship of China, in which all the leading chess players of China will take part. The prize fund of this tournament is so high that only the winner will receive U.S $ 10 000.
-If you are participating in super turnir of China, why you expressed a wish to take part in the Georgian international championship, which is currently going on?
-The current tournament of China was scheduled for May 3-15. I had quite enough time to participate in both tournaments, that’s why I agreed. But inexplicably for me, Chinese moved the tournament to May 30 instead of May 3.
So great was my desire to participate in the national championship, that I asked the Georgian Chess Federation, to change the time shift of the Georgian tournament not to coincide to the Chinese tournament. The organizers of the championship and the most players agreed to my request, only 2 players went against and the time of Georgian championship was left the same.
-Which chess players do not agree your request?
- Salome Melia and Inga Khurtsilava
-Why do not they take your request into account?
- Melia and Khurtsilava do not name the reasons.
-Because of this reasons you had to make a choice. Why do you chose the tournament of China?
-There are a lot of reasons. Not to say anything about the big prize fund, all the best chess players of China participate in this tournament. Any chess player wants to play in the superturnir and to raise their class. It would be folly for me to lose this chance. It should be noted that I am playing in the China club championship, in which chess club of Tian Gin is on the 1st place among 12 teams after the 4 round.
-How is the team considered in the China national championship?
-There are 3 men and 2 women in each team
-Do other Georgian players participate in this championship beside you?
-Baadur Jobava is playing, but I do not remember on which team behalf he is playing.
