The 16th European Women’s Championship has ended up in Chakvi, Georgia. The prize money was 60 000 EUR and about 100 chess players from 20 countries participated in it. The tournament was based on Swiss system.
Ukrainian international grandmaster Natalia Zhukova won the tournament with 9.5 points. Zhukova beat Nino Batsiashvili who was leading the tournament for a long time.
Georgian grandmaster Nino Batsiashvili was close to gold medal but she lost to Zhukova. Finally, Batsiashvili took the second place. It is her best result in career. Another Georgian Miranda Mikadze became international grandmaster.
Unfortunately, Georgian chess players have not won European Championship yet. Salome Melia won silver and bronze medals in 2013-14. Maia Chiburdanidze won bronze medal in 2000 and Ketevan Arakhamia – in 2001.
Besides Batsiashvili, only Melia got in Top 10 from the Georgians.
