The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia made an official statement about the recent incidents of the Georgian clubs:
“The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia condemns the recent incidents of the Georgian clubs at the international and national tournaments.
Violation of public order, disrespect toward society and hooliganism is crime committed by a small group of people. It must be investigated and criminals must be punished. The mentioned facts contradict the sport principles and ethics recognized by international society.
Georgia has great traditions of support which have nothing to do with aggression and violence. The mentioned incidents put our traditions, security of spectators and reputation of our country in danger.
The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia applies to the Georgian sport federations and clubs to take preventive measures in order to avoid the mentioned incidents.
The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia is actively involved in carrying out the tasks and duties of European Convention. The Ministry is also cooperating with Council of Europe and UEFA in order to have immediate response to such problems at the sporting events. This cooperation also aims to secure fans at the sporting events in Georgia”.
