Today four members of the Georgian Greco-Roman youth team wrestled at European Championship in the capital of Macedonia, Skopje. Three of them won medals.
Irakli Shavadze (50kg) started participation from the second round where he defeated Ramiz Mammadov of Azerbaijan. Then, he won over Karadasli Yasin of Turkey (6:0, 6:4). In final Shavadze lost 7 points to Evgeny Udinski of Ukraine and finally, won silver medal.
Khvicha Chitava (60kg), Lasha Gobadze (74kg) and Kukuri Kirtskhalia (96kg) had a good start. All of them lost gold-silver chance in semifinal.
Gobadze defeated Christian Simone of Slovakia and Aleksandr Genuveina of Belarus (0:0 3:1). Then, he lost to Adlan Akiev of Russia (0:7). In “bronze final” the Georgia won over Hajimurad Bagmanov of Azerbaijan.
Kirtskhalia lost to Zolt Torok of Hungary (4:8 3:3). Before that, he won over Konstantin Hutuleak of Romania and Dimitrios Tsekeridis of Greece (1:0 6:0). In repechage Kirtskhalia defeated Daniel Gastl of Austria (5:0 0:0).
Chitava beat Tamas Nagi of Serbia (7:0) and Mihai Radu Mihut of Romania (7:3 3:0). Then, he lost to Elmar Mukhtarov of Azerbaijan (0:2 1:2). In repechage final the Georgian lost to Deniz Menskes of Germany (0:2 0:1) and took the 5th place.
On June 3 champions and prize winners will be found out in 55, 66, 84 and 120kg. The following sportsmen will wrestle in the name of Georgia: Ednar Shavadze (55kg), Piruz Tsulukidze (66kg), Robert Kobliashvili (84kg) and Iakob Kajaia (120kg).
