Dimitri Basilashvili became a leader of Georgian Freestyle wrestling team in new weight class – 70 kg. according to the decision of National Wrestling Federation and the team’s coaching staff, mini-tournament which was held in Vake wrestling club was given a status of Georgian Championship.
Country champions-winners were revealed recently in sport complex “Arena”. Medals in 7 weight classes were awarded according to FILA rules of that time. After this, International Federation has approved another one weight and the tournament was held to reveal a winner exactly in this 8th category.
17 wrestlers were involved in the case and Dimitri Basilashvili and Giorgi Tsutskiridze went through the final. In the decisive meeting Basilashvili won 10-2. Tornike Rostiashvili and Zurab Iakobashvili occupied the 3rd places.
“The Championship was held at the highest level. The best referees served the meetings and we have seen quite tense internal competition. Dimitri Basilashvili surpassed everyone and became the main candidate of going to the European Championship 2014” – the head coach of Freestyle wrestling team, Revaz Mindorashvili told this to “World Sport”.
The team will start preparation for the European Championship on January 6. The main attention will be paid to physical training. From February to March, the team will likely go to another two meetings and will participate in three international tournaments.
Recall that according to the decision of the Wrestling International Federation, the champions –winners will be revealed in 8 weight classes at the European and World Championships and International tournaments: 57, 61, 65, 70, 74, 86, 97 and 125. And at the Olympic games the medals will be awarded only in 6 weight classes: 57, 65, 74, 86, 97 and 125.
