Mchedlishvili did well in Blitz, Khotenashvili is Still Leader among Georgians in Classical Chess Tournament

There is an interesting situation after 7 rounds at Dubai chess tournament. 6 chess players advanced with 6.0 points at the same time, 7 players are behind them with 5.5. points.

Unfortunately, Georgian chess players are not among the leaders. Bela Khotenashvili (2492) has the best results among Georgians, she has 5.0 points and according to the additional points she is in the 15th place.  Konstantine Shanava is in the 32th place with the same points.

As for other Georgian participants, their tournament condition is the following: 36. Levan Pantsulaia (2556)- 4.5 points; 54. Mikheil Mchedlishili (2640)- 4.0; 76. Sophiko Khukhashvili (2386)- 4.0; 77. Maka Purtseladze (2347)- 4.0;

After 5 rounds, classical chess players rested and competed at blitz tournament. Mikheil Mchedlishvili gained 7.5 points in 9 rounds and took the second place.

Mchedlishvili won 6 rounds, played 3 draws and Saleh Salem (2534) who took the first place beat Georgian player only with additional points.

Levan Pantsulaia started blitz-tournament very well and after 5 rounds he was leader with maximum points, but then managed to gain only one point in the left rounds and finally took the 11th position with 6.0 points. Konstantine Shanava took the 13th place with the same points. 

The tournament is based on Swiss system and will finish on April 15. Prize money of the Dubai tournament is 50 000 USD. Champion will win 10 000 USD. The money will be distributed this way: II place – 7 000; III place – 4 000; IV – 3 500; V – 2 500;...
