Youthful Start

Unlike freestyle wrestling, in Greco-Roman the national Championship is not held with a full dictation of experienced members. Today, champions and prize winners were revealed in four weight categories of 7 and among them members of Georgian youth team gained 2 gold medals in 2 categories. And in one category one of the member of the same team won the silver medal.

There is a great difference between two styles with a spectacular view, in this case in favor of freestyle wrestling. The situation is much more complicated in Greco-Roman wrestling.

Almost constantly arguing and frequency of protest against the referee’s decision decolorized the spectacular side. Once happened so that the meeting on all three carpets stopped due to protests and video reviews. Referees may often be right but they got the decisions so confused and nervously, that the person who were sure in their decision raised doubts in their truth. Fortunately, the case has never came to the physical confrontation and clash.

I will start today’s review with young champions. In 84 kg weight category, Robert Kobliashvili (Gardabani) reached the highest step of the pedestal. This boy became the champion of Georgia for the second time, but unlike last year, now he wrestled more convincingly. He overcame all main candidates of the Georgian national team. At first he won over Revaz Nadareishvili (7:0) and Giorgi Tsirekidze (8:1). He defeated Giorgi Gochelashvili (7:0) and Nikoloz Kelasovi (8:0) easily. And in the final, he won over finalist of European Championship Vladimer Gegeshidze.

In the heavy weight category, Iakob Kajaia surpassed all. He became a champion so that did not lost even one point. Especially impressive victory he gained in the final, when he defeated Guram Parselidze in 43 seconds. Before this meeting the Georgian beat Shota Gogisvanidze (4:0), Levan Arabuli (3:0) and Sergo Gogisvanidze (4:0).

Nika Tsetskhladze (55kg) after winning easily over Giorgi Lominadze (8:0), Abesalom Katamadze (9:0) and Beka Balanchivadze (7:0), lost to Goderdzi Davitadze (2:9) in the final and gained the silver medal. Before the decisive victory, Davitadze beat Irakli Shvadze, Kakha Iremadze and Gizo Meladze.

66 kg category ended with an expected final. Last year’s champion of Georgia Sachino Davitaia lost to Revaz Lashkhi. Prize winner of London Olympic Games (60kg) won in quite spectacular fight. In the first period he won 4:1. And in the second period he and Davitaia gained 7-7 points.

Revaz Lashkhi was involved in the competition from the second circle, where he beat Ucha Shavadze. In the ¼ and semi finals he overcame Marad Abuladze (5:0) and Davit Takashvili (8:0).

Tomorrow wrestlers in remained three categories (60, 74 and 96kg) will be involved. Preliminary stages meetings will start at 10:00 am.
