Arutinian Is the First, Shanava - the Second

 

Georgian chess players are leading Karen Asrian Memorial which is underway in the city of Armenia, Jermuk. After 6 rounds, Davit Arutinian (2561) is in the first place with 5.5 points. Konstantine Shanava (2589) is in the second place with 5.0 points.

In the sixth round, Georgians won the hosts over with white pieces. Arutinian defeated Tigran Petrosian (2315), Shanava – Samvel Ter-Saakian (2577). Shanava will play against Arutinian with the whites next round.

Other four Georgians are also playing at the tournament in Armenia. Their results are: 12. Sophiko Guramishvili (2408) – 4.0; 26. Davit Lomsadze (2345) – 3.0; 33. Davit Maghalashvili (2478) – 3.0; 37. Gaioz Nigalidze (2465) – 3.0; as for Ana Matnadze of Spain (2446), she is in the 34th place with 3.0 points.

Jermuk tournament is based on the Swiss system and it will end up on June 24. Prize money is 18 500 USD. Champion will gain 4 000 USD. The best woman will win 800 USD.
