The Georgian Greco-Roman wrestling team won the first medal at World Championships in Las Vegas. Champions and prize winners were revealed in 59, 71, 80 and 130 kg. Lasha Gobadze got in Top 3 in 80 kg.
In the main draw Gobadze defeated Nikolaos Varkas of Greece (11:0), Petar Balo of Serbia (8:2) and Evgeny Saleev of Russia (4:0). In semifinal the Georgian wrestler lost to Selcuk Cebi of Turkey 2:4. In “bronze final” Gobadze beat Samat Shirdakov of Kyrgyzstan 8:0.
Goga Apriamashvili wrestled in 71 kg and failed to Knut Zakarias Tallroth of Sweden 2:3 in the first round. Murad Mikeladze (59 kg) and Iakob Kajaia (130 kg) also lost the first round.
This evening champions and prize winners will be revealed in 85 kg. Mate Sopadze will wrestle in the name of Georgia.
